Toronto elementary students aims to solve lead in water problem
Play Video

We, THE WALKING LEAD - team 458 are a collection of 10 middle school First Lego League students who took on the challenge of solving an issue dealing with the human water cycle. When we discovered that our school was one of the 640 schools and daycares in the TDSB that failed the provincial lead test, we knew we had work to do. We invented an automated flusher called "The Royal Flush" that automatically flushes the lead out of the water. Our invention dropped the lead levels in our school from 29 parts per billion to 0.167 parts per billion (a 99% reduction in lead!). We came in first place at our qualifying tournament, 2nd at provincials and won the champions award at the Ontario Innovation Celebration (something no TDSB FLL team has ever done)! We now move on to at least one, possibly two international tournaments featuring the best robots and projects from all over the world! We can't wait to showcase our project on the world stage!
